This is more useful when we want more flexibility and when we need to mix rec709 clips from another camera. Clip ConversionĪnother way is to do conversion per clip. This solution works well as long as you do not need to mix HLG with rec709 in a single project. The main drawback here is that we have to change resolve working colour space and the grading controls will work slightly different to what we are used to. From here we can design our own tone mapping curve or change the exposure of the shot. This process does the conversion under the hood and we work with rec709 with an extended dynamic range. We set our working space to ACEScc and IDT to HLG and the timeline/delivery to rec709. The most obvious way to do the conversion is to use Davinci Resolve colour management. After that just apply my Tourbox preset in the Tourbox console.I have been trying to find the best/easiest way to use the amazing dynamic range of HLG for standard rec709 delivery. However since I use my custom keyboard layout it means that you will need to first change your keyboard settings by applying my settings in Resolve.

This is what I shoot with on most of my projects so that I have the most flat possible looking image which allows me to adjust the colors further yet get more latitude out of my images. You can watch the full video comparison of these 2 cameras here. Here are some sample shots from both the ZCam E2 and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K that I did during my side by side tests. Simply put it on top of your footage to get the proper widescreen aspect black bars on top and bottom. Various standard aspect ratios in 4K resolution, 4K UHD, 2K & Full HD. More info about these LUTs (and my custom GH5 settings) here. This way you’ll be able to view your shot in normal video, while filming in the flat profile. I also have another version of this LUT (.vlt file) that you load onto your Panasonic camera. I created a custom LUT for converting Panasonic V-Log L to the standard Rec. The LUT converts the color space to bring back all the colors without any shifts, but do it without decreasing the dynamic range of the footage (which is what happens when using the standard Film to Rec709 LUT from Blackmagic Design). If you own the URSA Mini 4.6K and like the maximum dynamic range of the film LOG profile, but don’t like its flat and colorless look, then this LUT is for you.
